Instant Technology CAREs for Haiti
Staffing Firm Pledges to Match Donations Made to CARE for Haiti Relief Efforts
CHICAGO, IL, January 27, 2010 -- Instant Technology is partnering with CARE, a non-profit humanitarian organization, to raise money for relief efforts following the catastrophic earthquake that devastated Haiti. CARE provides emergency relief during and after disasters, in addition to focusing on underlying issues of poverty. The Chicago-based staffing firm has pledged to match total donations up to $1,000 made to CARE via www.care.org/InstantTechforHaiti until Sunday, February 7, 2010.
This partnership marks the beginning of an ongoing relationship between two organizations with roots grounded in women’s initiatives. As President/CEO of a nationally certified Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE), Instant Technology’s Rona Borre was awarded the 2009 Influential Woman in Business honor at an event where she was introduced to the inspiring achievements of CARE. CARE works to fight poverty through empowering women, recognizing that the enrichment of women yields dramatic benefits in families and communities.
Borre explains, “Devastation of any magnitude affects us all, and the employees and management staff at Instant Technology wanted to contribute to rescue efforts in Haiti. Due to their extensive history in Haiti and our common passions, CARE was our first choice as a partner in this undertaking. The work they do is truly inspirational.”
CARE has been active in humanitarian efforts in Haiti for more than 50 years, so they were at the forefront of relief efforts following the 7.0-magnitude earthquake. Through their established partnerships with communities throughout the country, they have been able to deliver aid to over 14,000 victims, despite broken infrastructure and logistical challenges. Thousands of water purification tablets, high-protein bars, first aid kits, hygiene kits, tents and blankets have been distributed.
“We're particularly worried about the children,” said CARE's country director in Haiti Sophie Perez. "So many schools seem to have collapsed. In Haiti, children go to school in the afternoon. Children were still in school when the earthquake hit, so there are many children trapped. It's horrifying."
